About

Why we built AIKeyMoji

Stickers say things words can't. We wanted a keyboard that lets anyone make a personal one in seconds — without trading their photos for it.

The problem

Every sticker keyboard out there asks for accounts, ships your images to a server, and shows ads. Half of them stop working offline. We wanted the opposite: a sticker keyboard that runs entirely on your phone.

The approach

Apple's Vision framework and Foundation Models now run powerful AI on-device. Background removal (VNGenerateForegroundInstanceMaskRequest), image segmentation, and even large language models work without ever calling a server.

We built AIKeyMoji on top of those frameworks — no analytics, no backend, no compromise. The companion keyboard extension shares stickers with the main app via a private App Group container, all on the user's device.

The principles

  • Privacy by default — your photos never leave your phone.
  • Free and open — no subscriptions, no ads, no upsells.
  • Polished — fast, beautiful, and obvious to use.
  • Offline-first — every feature works without a network.

The studio

AIKeyMoji is built by Boomalaya, an independent iOS studio based in Tel Aviv, Israel. Boomalaya focuses on privacy-first consumer apps for iPhone, with an emphasis on using Apple's on-device AI capabilities introduced with Apple Intelligence.
